Most people have actually bought many more than that, opting for products which are used monthly or even weekly. Now think – when was the last time you thought about the need to detox your armpits? You can’t always control this, though. That’s why other methods of detox have been created. Here are a few:
Massages are one of the best gifts you can give your body. Not only will you feel relaxed and pampered, but you’ll also be helping your body detox.
Enlist the help of a professional, certified massage therapist, then sign up for a deep tissue massage. These massages will help to stimulate the lymph nodes, which make up the system which carries toxins from your body.
Be sure that you’re properly hydrated when you go in for your massage. Then, after you’re finished, be sure to rehydrate to help flush away those toxins.
- Drink Green Tea
If you’re like millions of people around the world, you love to start your morning with a cup (or a pot) of coffee. And while it’s okay to drink a little bit of caffeine, there are better ways to do it.
Green tea has been shown to provide antioxidant benefits to the body – in other words, green tea can help stop cell damage. Cell damage, that is, which includes cancer.
For best results, cut down on your caffeine intake, but don’t be afraid to sip on green tea throughout the day. The antioxidant properties can provide a simple way to help your body detox.
- Make Lifestyle Changes
It goes without saying that in order to help your body detox, you should strongly consider making some lifestyle changes. Most obviously, those who smoke or who drink heavily should consider quitting or cutting down.
But there are other ways to help your body detox, and they’re simple steps you can take if you just plan ahead a little. First, try to get more sleep! Sleep is your body’s time to recuperate and rebuild – literally! While you sleep, your body grows new cells and eliminates waste products. Secondly, resolve to add exercise to your weekly routine. While it may not be possible for you to exercise, say, an hour every day, you’ll still see great benefits by walking three or so times each week.

Choose foods like salmon, flaxseed and sweet potatoes. These foods are proven to help your body detox. Incorporate them into meals, or treat yourself to a smoothie.

Have you ever noticed how, when you wear that synthetic athletic shirt, your sweat smells different? Well, there’s a reason for that. We’ll talk more about sweat in a minute. But for now, we’ll just explain that synthetic fibers can trap bacteria close to your skin.
Trapping the sweat so close to your skin can lead to the overgrowth of unhealthy bacteria. Heck, even too much of the good bacteria can be a bad thing. Besides that, the clothes which are made from synthetic fabrics can contain harmful chemicals which were used in their manufacture. Wearing natural fibers is also a good idea when you detox your armpits as well.
- Use Natural Detergents
Speaking of chemicals, have you thought about what’s in your laundry soap? Look at the ingredients, and you’ll see what I mean. Diethanolamine has been linked with liver disease and skin irritation. NPE is a toxin which damages the nervous system. And not to mention – many laundry detergents contain formaldehyde. Yes, you read that right.
All of those ingredients are flush against your skin when you wear clothes which have been washed in them. Those chemicals can enter your body through your pores. Now Let’s Talk About Sweat, Baby!
Nobody wants to smell bad. No one. There are men and women on this planet who seem to be blessed with the ability to sweat like crazy, yet not smell at all. That’s true whether they wear deodorant or not.
But that’s not the majority of people. Most of us, when we sweat, we release a bit of an odor. Whether it be underarm odor, foot odor or a smell from any other place on the body. It’s not necessarily gross – it’s just anatomy.
So why do we stink when we sweat? There are a number of factors which can cause embarrassing body odor. Hormonal changes, the foods we eat, and our bathroom habits can all cause different odors. Stress can, too, as can an abundance of protein in ones diet.
But sweat itself doesn’t stink, it’s the bacteria that lives on your skin that stinks. Sweat is actually a good thing! Your liver and your kidneys do a lot of work to rid your body of toxins naturally. But, as we mentioned, there are sometimes more toxins than your body can handle.

Deodorant vs. Antiperspirant: Which Should You Choose
We’ve established that sweat is critical to a proper detox, and to detox your armpits. Your body produces sweat not only as a way to cool the skin but also as a way to pump harmful toxins out of your body.
Many people are offended by the way their bodies smell when they sweat. They’re also embarrassed by underarm wetness, which can show on work or other clothes. As a result, they turn to antiperspirants.
However, antiperspirants are not a friend to your body. The most active ingredients in most antiperspirants are aluminum compounds. These compounds clog the pores, preventing sweat from escaping. Moreover, aluminum has been linked to Alzheimer’s, as well as hormonal imbalances, and a host of other issues.
Antiperspirants also contain parabens, triclosan, steareths, TEA and DEA. These ingredients are responsible for damage to the central nervous system, can cause cancer and can exacerbate breathing issues.
Deodorants, on the other hand, don’t block your sweat. Instead, they allow your body to sweat while minimizing the odor on your skin caused by bacteria. Artificial deodorants kill the bacteria on your skin. Natural deodorants reduce the bacteria count, but are just as effective as their chemical counterparts.

Detox Your Armpits: The Basics
Yeah, yeah, yeah. Every month, there’s a new fad. Detox your feet. Detox your face. Detox your teeth. Now it’s detox your armpits. Whatever, right?
Hear us out. Whether you’re planning to make the switch to a natural deodorant or not, an armpit detox might be just what you need. And it’s so easy to do, what’s the harm?
There are three main ingredients which you may use to detox your armpit. They are:
- Coconut oil
- Apple cider vinegar
- Bentonite clay
- Activated charcoal
Coconut oil is a “miracle oil.” It has an SPF of 4, and can be used to treat an array of skin disorders. It’s also got antibacterial properties, which, as you now know, are essential to helping you detox your armpits (added in).
Apple cider vinegar is another great natural product. It contains malic acid, which is not only antibacterial but is also antifungal and antiviral. Again, these are very useful in your armpit detox.
You may not have heard of bentonite clay. It’s commonly used as a product in detox solutions and can be used to detox your armpits. The thing about bentonite clay is that it, too, contains traces of aluminum. Don’t be worried, though. The aluminum in bentonite clay isn’t absorbable by the body.
Finally, activated charcoal is a very popular substance used in detox. It’s a black powder which should be used with caution, as it can temporarily stain the skin. The fine particles can get between the cracks in your armpit skin, causing an embarrassing result. So watch for that if you use this product to detox your armpits.
What follows are two specific recipes that you can use to detox your armpits. When you’re done, you’ll find that your natural deodorant works more effectively. You’ll have begun to remove the toxins left by your chemical deodorant. Your underarm odor will be reduced. And your skin will just feel better!
How to Detox Your Armpits
The first armpit detox recipe contains the following ingredients:
• 2 tablespoons apple cider vinegar
• 2 teaspoons bentonite clay
• Enough water to make a thick paste
Mix the ingredients together thoroughly. For best results, mix in a glass, re-sealable container for easy storage later.
Do NOT use a metal bowl or spoon!
Apply to your underarms, and allow to remain for anywhere from five to twenty minutes. Please note that if it’s you first time, you may experience irritation. If this happens, rinse in the shower immediately. You don’t want to irritate your skin as you detox your armpits.
Secondly, you could try the following recipe:
• 1 tablespoon activated charcoal (food grade)
• Enough water to make a thick paste
That’s it! Apply the mixture to the underarms, then let dry. Just a note, though – activated charcoal is very messy business. It’s best to apply this detox mask in the shower; as it dries, the charcoal may begin to flake off. To avoid stained carpets or other surfaces, just keep it contained in the shower or tub.
Other Ways to Detox Your Armpits
We mentioned earlier that there are ways you can detox your body naturally. We reminded you that cutting out the unhealthy habits can help (sorry, we just can’t stress it enough!) and that massage can help.
There are a few other methods of detox that you might find helpful even as an add on as you detox your armpits. First of all, dry brushing has been shown to be an effective way to detox your body. You don’t have to limit dry brushing to your armpits, you can dry brush all your skin!
Using a bristle brush, begin at your feet and brush your skin gently. Always brush from your extremities toward your heart. Use long sweeping motions to remove the dead skin cells from your body. Once you’ve dry brushed your whole body, jump in the shower and rinse!
Alternatively, acupuncture is known to be an effective way to detox. Visit a licensed professional who will safely target release points for toxins. It sounds scary, but acupuncture is actually quite relaxing! You’ll feel the difference almost immediately.
Regardless of the method you choose, we urge you to think twice before you think that the detox of your armpits is “strange.” It sounds odd, sure! But when you think of all those chemicals that your detergents and deodorants are releasing into your body, you might change your mind.
