Buying a true natural deodorant without aluminum, parabens, chemicals or propylene glycol isn't as simple as it may seem. I decided that the best way to learn about the common ingredients in most store bought deodorants is to research each ingredient on the label. I went to the local pharmacy and purchased two stick deodorants and thus my research began!.
One of the deodorants had a warning on it "Keep Out Of Reach Of Children!" I thought how awful something that is made to stop sweat and odour on my armpits can also harm children! The other deodorant did not have this warning which was a bit more comforting until I read the ingredients. This definitely was not a natural deodorant without aluminum and without chemicals. I learned about chemicals I never even knew existed! The ingredients were a bit different in both of the deodorants. I analyzed one of the deodorants and below are the results.
The first Ingredient was called cyclomethicone this chemical is a derivative of silicone. It does not allow to breathe and is a skin irritant. Stearyl Alcohol - is a chemical that causes cancer. Aluminum Zirconium Tetrachlorahydex gly - is a neurotoxin, it affects your nerves and nervous system. That is why there is a correlation between Alzheimer"s DIsease and Aluminum. Parabens- were found in the ingredients but were listed as butyl. Parabens are strongly connected to Breast Cancer and tumors. Talc - is carcinogenic Fragrance - is an endocrine disruptor. Fragrance on a label can indicate the presence of up to 4,000 separate ingredients many toxic and carcinogenic. Propylene glycol - can cause dermatitis, irritate eyes and mucous membranes. There are still more ingredients but I think you get the idea!
